The Board of Education for Fort Larned Unified School District 495 has announced the selection of Mr. Joseph Sample to be the next Superintendent of Schools. Mr. Sample will begin his tenure on July 1, 2017. He will replace Mr. Jon H. Flint who announced his retirement in December.
Mr. Sample currently is the Principal at Baldwin Junior High, a position he has held since 2013. Prior to that he was the Assistant Principal at Lola High School. Under Mr. Sample’s leadership, Baldwin Middle School has been named a “High Performing” school from KMSAA and also has earned a “Spotlight Award” from the Kansas State Department of Education. Mr. Sample holds a Bachelors and Masters degree from Baker University.
Board President Sharon Lessard stated, “Joseph Sample emerged from a very thorough search process that included several highly qualified candidates. It was his educational experience as well as his passion and desire to lead a district that separated him from other candidates.” Lessard continued by stating “our board was very fortunate to have had such a talented pool of candidates. Narrowing that list to the four that were interviewed; and then ultimately selecting Mr. Sample was both challenging and rewarding.”
The process of selecting the new superintendent began in December when the Board selected KASB to assist in the search. In January, input from community, staff and administration was solicited to identify what characteristics were desired in the next superintendent. These meetings played an important role in finding and ultimately identifying Mr. Sample as the next superintendent. Mrs. Lessard finished by saying, “The Board is certain in our choice of Joseph Sample and confident that under his leadership USD 495 will continue to thrive.”
