FROM THE MOMENT YOUR CHILD IS BORN USD # 495 PARENTS AS TEACHERS CARES ABOUT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!

YOUR BABY WAS BORN TO LEARN!

As a parent, you are your child's first and most important teacher. You begin teaching your baby during your pregnancy-through your touch, and your voice.

From the very beginning, you shape your child's future by providing a variety of experiences. Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a family support program that begins prenatally and extends to age 3.

In the first few years. children learn more and at a faster pace than at any other time in life. Through PAT, parents gain knowledge and skills to make the most of these crucial, early learning years. The program provides information on child development. The program involves you and your child in parent-child activities that encourage development in language, cognitive skills, motor development, and helps to strengthen your relationship with your child.

Components of Parents As Teachers:

PERSONAL VISITS: The heart of the PAT program. A parent educator knowledgeable in child development assists you with what to expect as your child grows and changes. Practical suggestions on encouraging early learning and managing challenging behavior are also offered.

GROUP MEETINGS: This time allows you to meet with other parents in your child's age group. Family activities as well as parent discussion groups are offered during this time. What a great way to meet families you will be spending your child's educational career with!

SCREENINGS: Periodic screenings are available by a parent educator or a team of educators, that assess your child's overall development, as well as health, hearing, and vision.

WEEKLY PLAYGROUPS: Held every Tuesday morning from 10:00-11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church, 701 Main, Larned, KS 67550. Bring your child and enjoy the company of other parents. Allows your child the opportunity to interact with children his age, simple crafts for you and your child, snack time, song bag, and story time. The last playgroup of the month is the Birthday Playgroup. Come and celebrate with us.

CONNECTIONS TO COMMUNITY RESOURCES: A wide list of services that enable us to link your family to resources beyond the scope of PAT.
